We trust that everyone had a good holiday season and we are now well into our new year.  While we were away I did take some time to do some work, yes I was in some great quilt stores and did find some tools that I hadn’t seen before!  Of course I had to purchase these—I’ll test them out, and hopefully before too long you will see these items here!

Thanks to you, our wonderful customers, Homespun Designs Quilt Shoppe & More is celebrating our 3^rd Anniversary!!!  We hope you will celebrate with us and enjoy a 20% discount off regular priced bolted fabrics, with a minimum of a half metre.  This happens the week of January 17 to 21, 2012.

We have been busy putting together  some great classes for you, that will run through the winter and into the spring.  The stitchery class did have a great deal of interest so look for these new stitchery classes.

Events… On February 2^nd, The Markham Towne Quilters’ Guild is having a wonderful speaker, Pearl Braun-Dyck who will present her Trunk Show and the following day hold a workshop on her Template Free Applique technique.  Pearl has received numerous awards for her quilts including Best of Shows, Best Hand Applique, Best Hand Quilting as well as Viewers Choice.  Pearl has taught extensively in Manitoba as well as in Saskatchewan, Ontario and North Dakota.  Don’t miss your opportunity to see Pearl and take her workshop!

We are always looking for more time—well our calendar has provided us with one extra day this year—February 29^th!  Let’s make it productive and get some extra quilting done.  Watch the webpage for details…

Creativfestival is coming soon. Homespun will once again have advanced tickets.  The festival will be held on April 27^th & 28^th at the International Centre, Halls 1 & 2.

Mark your calendar for Port Perry Patchers quilt show May 11^th & 12^th.  Homespun Designs Quilt Shoppe & More will be there.  Please do stop by and say hello while you are visiting.

Quilter’s Circle… a time to sit and catch up on some hand work.  Come with some friends or make new ones.  Set aside the last Tuesday of each month, January 31, February 28, March 27, April 24, May 29 and June 26 from 1:00 to 4:00pm.  Just $5.00!  Please call to reserve your space.

 

Volunteers… A huge Thank You to all who so very generously participated in the making of, or donated quilts for Project Linus.   These quilts were picked up before Christmas and were very much appreciated.  Although we will not be scheduling time in the classroom, we are still accepting quilts and will be donating them to Project Linus.

Classroom Schedule…Beginner*  Intermediate**  Advanced***

A deposit of the class fee will be taken to hold your space.  Once the minimum enrollment is reached, the class will be confirmed and the supply list will be distributed.  A discount of 10% will apply to all supplies needed for the particular class.  Again space is limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment and also to ensure that the class will run.

QUILTING 101…If you are interested in this class which takes you through all the basic steps of quilting and builds your confidence, while making a Rail Fence Quilt, please call the store to arrange for times.

TIS THE SEASON*…Tis the Season is a beautiful stitchery quilt.  Each month you will make 2 small stitchery blocks featuring cute Christmas-themed stitcheries.  You can finish into a 12 block quilt or make a few smaller projects.  Friday January 27, February 24, March 30, April 27, May 25 and June 29 from 10:00am to 12:30pm.  Fee:  $95.00 + book and materials.

SCRAP QUILT—TAFFY PULL*…Dig into you scraps to make this gorgeous scrap quilt. It is from the book Simple Seasons by Kim Diehl and features court house step blocks made using 1 ½” strips.  Join Lori and watch this quilt come together and finishes with a gorgeous version of a piano key border.  Friday January 27, February 24, March 30, April 27, May 25 and June 29 from 1:30 to 4:00pm.  Fee: $95.00 +book and materials.

CROCHETED RUG CLASS*…Come learn the basics of crocheted rug making.  These poly/cotton rugs are not only fun to make, but so practical, you can toss them in the washer and dryer.  All supplies needed to make a 4 pound rug (approx. 2’ x 3’ oval rug) will be available at the class.  (10% disc. Already applied to this fee.)   Wednesday  February 8 from 1:30 to 4:30pm.   Fee:  $20.00 + $45.00 materials.

GARDENER’S JOURNAL*…Join Lori once a month to stitch this lovely Australian quilt called  A Gardener’s Journal.  Each month you will complete stitcheries and piece them into a block.  Very scrappy, very fun.  No stitching experience required!  You will learn as you go and have so much fun.  Saturday February 11, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10 and an extra class for those that need it or for show and tell on December 8 from 10:00am to 12:30pm.  Fee:  $145.00 + book and materials.

 

FOLDED KALEIDOSQUARE**...With accurate measuring and sewing this makes up into a fabulous table topper or wall hanging.  Canadian designed.  Your choice of fabrics and placement can change the look.   Bet you will want to make one for each season, this also makes a great gift!  Wednesday March 7 and  14 from 1:00 to 3:30pm.  Fee:  $25.00 + pattern and materials.

FOLDED STAR CENTREPIECE**… Join the fun and learn just how easy it really is to create this stunning centre piece.  Proudly promoting a "Canadian Designer”.   You will want to make more than just one!  Wednesday March 21 and 28 from 1:00 to 3:30pm.  Fee:  $25.00 + pattern and materials.

ALL RUFFLED UP HANDBAG**…Come on out and join the fun making this unique drawstring bag!  Wednesday April 4 and 11 from 1:00 to 3:30pm.  Fee:  $25.00 + pattern and materials.

BLACK , WHITE and a LITTLE BIT BRIGHT*…This is a fun little, machine pieced quilt that goes together quickly.  Choose your favourite BRIGHT colour to make the quilt come to life.  Wednesday April 18, 25 and May 2 from 10:00am to 12:30pm.  Fee:  $35.00 + materials.

FOLDED TABLERUNNER**…If you have made the Folded Star Centrepiece you will want to make the Folded Tablerunner.  Take the next step and be creative with this Canadian Design.  Wednesday May 16, 23 & 30 from 1:00 to 3:30pm.  Fee:  $35.00 + materials.

ZIPPY STRIPPY**…Don’t let zippers stop you from making some great bags!  Come have some fun and learn just how easy zippers can be.  Wednesday June 6 & 13 from 10:00am to 12:30pm.  Fee:  $25.00 + pattern and materials.

Driving directions:  Ringwood Drive is one traffic light east of Hwy. 48 and runs south off of Stouffville Road.  Ringwood Drive is a short street that bends to the left and then dead ends.  As you are driving down Ringwood Drive you will see a large brick burnt orange building with a green roof.  This is # 86, go around the bend and into the second driveway.  There is another building that looks the same.  We share the parking lot.  Homespun Designs Quilt Shoppe & More is unit # 37--look for the awnings over the door.
